Firing Up the Kiln

This week I have enough work to pack my kiln with 'green ware' and fire it to bisque temperature - 980C. The firing takes about 12 hours - you have to go slow with ceramics or you could blow up your pots - and another 12 hours for the kiln to cool and be opened. I was particularly looking forward to this kiln load as I am experimenting with firing tiny glass medicine bottles into a medicine cabinet sculpture. I was really curious to know how they would turn out, and I can definitely say I was not disappointed with the result. I was very happy with the whole kiln load, everything came out in one piece and its now time to mix up my glazes and get to work on the next stage.... Glazing.
